Newer homes are built to be sealed very tightly, in order to keep the cost of heating and cooling the air as low as possible. While this is a good energy saving practice, most homes do not get enough fresh air from the outside. The stale air is just constantly recirculated throughout your home. Stale air in your home can hang onto cooking odors for a long time, along with odors from your pets. Along with the odors that stale air can hang onto, the EPA has stated that toxic pollutants and chemicals in the air can easily be up to 10 times greater in the air within your home, when compared to outside air. Some common pollutants are household cleaners, formaldehyde (which is commonly found in pressed particle wood, and in adhesives), smoke, and mold and mildew particles.
Due to the increasing concern for the quality of the air in our homes, Westin Air now installs whole-home ventilation systems. These ventilation systems exchange the stale, humid, polluted air from inside the home with fresh, outdoor air. With a whole-home ventilation system, air that is too cold or hot never enters the home. The ventilation system is called an ERV (Energy Recovery Ventilator) conditions outside air to a comfortable temperature and humidity level before introducing it into your home. If you are interested in having fresh air introduced into your home, while saving energy, give Westin Air a call today to learn more about whole home ventilation.
