A good air filter is essential to keep the air in your home clean, and also to prevent dirt from depositing on your AC coil, and in your ductwork. Air filters can not only trap dust and dirt, but also mold spores, pet dander, pollen, and even some viruses, depending on the type of filter that you have. By keeping your furnace and coil clean, you minimize the chance of costly repairs, and extend the life of your system. At a minimum, you need to have a quality 1" filter and replace it regularly. There are many other types of air filters, which are usually 4-5" wide. These filters last a lot longer than a 1" filter, as they have much more surface area to catch the dirt, dust, and pollutants.
